15 Nov 12 – Maker’s 46 Bourbon

Maker’s 46 Bourbon is produced at Burk’s Distillery in Loretto, Kentucky. This bottling was matured in charred white oak barrels and flavoured by introducing seared French oak slates towards the end of its aging. Unusual in that no rye is used as part of the mash, it’s Nose offers a hint of corn, caramel (butterscotch) and vanilla while it body has a nice bite that remains sweet with a spicy vanilla flavour.  Its palate feels smooth and oily despite a slight “leatherness” that, like its soft finish, drops off fairly quickly.  Easy to drink on its own, it was appreciated by all. The tasting bottle was purchased the Terry Fox and Campeau (Centrum) LCBO location for 49.95 CAD.
