17 Jan 13 – Glenrothes Select Reserve Single Malt Scotch

The first Ottawa Chapter tasting of 2013 saw our five members sample Glenrothes Select Reserve Single Malt Scotch, a product from their 125 year old distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland.  The company’s Malt Master created this fine beverage in their typical house character – i.e. ripe fruits, citrus, vanilla and hints of spice.  What made this scotch particularly unique was the Malt Master’s decision to journey down a path which employed casks from different years.  Some of our members offered there was an orange nose with a sharp/spicy and bitter marmalade flavour to the body.  Others noted the palate to have hints of peppercorn and touches of both bitterness and sweetness.  Overall, all found this single malt to have a smooth flavour.  The tasting bottle was purchased at LCBO on Innes Road in Orleans for $59.95.
